Heart Disease and Diabetes Prevention (HDDP) Centre
HDDP was established to help reduce the prevalence of heart disease, type II diabetes & associated illnesses through research, education & health promotion activities. The organization's guiding principle is based on prevention through lifestyle modification. Society is faced with an enormous health & financial burden based on the rising rate of these illnesses. Our commitment stems from a desire to help address this problem.
The organization involves some of Australia’s foremost independent scientific authorities and leading nutritionists, such as Assoc. Prof. David Cameron-Smith and Dr Tim Crowe – experts on the links between diet, physical activity and disease risk. HDDP is currently in discussion with researchers and scientists in North America and UK/Europe. During 2008 we expect to announce details of these projects.
HDDP has undertaken research into the health benefits gained from engaging in physical activity, with particular focus on highly-skilled, time-poor corporate workers who are typically insulated from health messages and may have difficulty incorporating interventions into their busy lifestyle. To expand on our research we’ve forged collaborative working relationships with other relevant organizations, such as Edith Cowan University, Sustainability Victoria and Monash University.
CORE VALUES
- Innovation - We provide an environment that fosters new and creative thought. Our team is encouraged to ask questions & think outside the square to find solutions.
- Integrity – To us this means acting responsibly, honestly and fairly, as individuals and as an organization. All our activities are guided by what is ethical and right.
- Collaboration – We recognize the value in working with others to achieve results. Through our association with relevant groups we are able to achieve better results quickly. The knowledge shared and the benefits gained from these relationships cannot be understated.
